During the tests, the users were allowed to make voice calls to their contacts and this way, the feature was activated on their devices, also.
The iOS users were left out and it’s not certain when the developers will release a version for them to include the Voice Calling feature.
A bit luckier were some Blackberry users who got to test the feature in February, and soon the Windows Phone and Symbian devices will get this feature also.It wasn't enough for WhatsApp to be popular by offering only basic features, allowing its users to send text messages and messages containing photos, videos or audio files. Viber, WhatsApp’s biggest rival, has been offering VoIP calls for a while and it was about time for Zuckerberg to move to another level, requested by the fans.
If in the past, Nokia and Blackberry were dominating the mobile market with their high end devices which had a great processing power and QWERTY keypads for an easier communication, these phones being considered business devices, now, the Android phones are more popular and many developers prefer to create applications for this operating system, then cover the rest of platforms.
But let’s go back to Blackberry and other advanced Symbian and Windows Phones that were considered the coolest devices in late 2000s. Many people still use them and refuse to buy newer models because they prefer to use their phones with QWERTY keyboards. But Blackberry’s ascent was halted by the rise of Android devices. Apple and Google are disputing the supremacy of the market, but currently, there are more Android users than iOS users. Why? Because Apple is aiming the premium market and its customers are “richer” and ready to spend money on expensive application they can download from the Apple Store. The Widows Phone users are in a much smaller number, but after Nokia was purchased by Microsoft and the new owner starting releasing more and more Lumia models, with better specs, the sales increased gradually. However, Nokia has terminated its support for Symbian OS in January 2014 and the Nokia 808 PureView was the last phone that was releasedwith this operating system.WhatsApp is the chatting application everyone would want on his smartphone,whatever operating system runs on it. And now that the Voice Calling feature is active on Android devices and some Blackberry phones, recently, WhatsApp announced that this feature is heading to this OS. So, the company will release a new version for Windows Phone that will allow its users to enable Voice Calls ontheir devices after being called by their friends who were lucky to get it.
